Pavilion (Barcelona) Ottoman (Mies Van der Rohe Reproduction)
$769.00
A meticulous reproduction of the original Mies Van der Rohe Barcelona Chair first introduced in 1929 at the International Exhibition in Barcelona Spain. The chair was used by Spanish Royalty at the German Pavilion in Barcelona, Spain. Not long after, the Barcelona Chair became known as the chair for kings. Today it is recognized as an iconic modern classic design. Its stately shape represents the Bauhaus movement. The original chair was upholstered using ivory colored Pigskin. The chair and ottoman makes extensive use of both leather piping and impressed buttons. The design drew inspiration from ancient folding chairs. This can clearly be seen where the frame meets in an x pattern almost looking as if it could fold up in position. The original frame was even designed to bolt together. In fact, it was not until 1950 that the frame was redesigned using solid stainless providing a smoother finished look.
